Sure Start Children’s Centre

Residents of the Village Association (VA) may be aware that the Sure Start Children’s Centre is having to relocate from its current location within the old Naafi building, where it has been for the past 4 years and will be moving into the Cricket Pavilion on the 10 April 2018.

The VA feels that the Pavilion is not an ideal location for a number of reasons which are views shared by the management team of the Centre themselves. In addition, the VA is concerned that the permitted use and purpose of the Pavilion is that it should be used by a cricket club or team for the purpose of playing cricket on the green. Under the terms of the negotiated freehold transfer of the Pavilion and other assets to Caterham Barracks Community Trust (CBCT) in December last year the VA’s consent has to be sought for a change of use.

Although the change of use consent was not sought, the VA is conscious that Cricket has not been played on the green for many years and is unlikely to be played in 2018 and we are also keen to support and retain the services provided by Sure Start and so agree to the change of use of the Pavilion on a temporary basis, for up to 11 months, which is the term of the use of the Pavilion offered by CBCT.

Tandridge District Council and the Parish Council are both supporting the search for new and more suitable local premises for the Children’s Centre and the VA will do all that it can to support Sure Start during its occupancy of the Pavilion and in it undertaking its range of services to the local community.

Future Cricket

It is very much the VA's hope that cricket will return to the Green and Pavilion for the enjoyment of residents and visitors to the development, if any residents are interested in exploring and helping this further then please do get in touch via an email (office@thevillageassosciation.org) and lets see what we can organise.
