Updated: Aug 6, 2021

On Saturday 22 May we resumed our Resident Surgeries and we pleased with the level of engagement. Issues raised included:

• Feedback, good & bad, on our landscapers Acacia

• Feedback and questions about Hazelvine and the role of the VA

• Road markings and parking

• Fence repairs and work to trees

• Vehicle access and speeding

• Communications by the VA, particularly via Facebook

Additional information below. Not shown in Summer newsletter due to space.

The need for a pedestrian crossing by the warden’s hut was also raised following a concerning accident where a child was hit by a car when crossing to Tesco’s, thankfully the boy is OK and with no lasting injuries. We have previously been in contact with Surrey Council to request a crossing but have been informed that this is not possible due to there being a number of issues that would make the installation of an official crossing unfeasible, these are:

• The existing bends on the approach to the dropped kerbs mean that drivers would not have good visibility of pedestrians waiting to cross the road on the southern footway.

• Any crossing here would mean that the existing bus stop would need to be moved, because any buses waiting in the layby would mask any pedestrians waiting on the northern footway to cross the road.

• Government guidance recommends that official crossings should be located away from junctions, so that drivers are given adequate opportunity to appreciate the existence of a crossing and brake safely.

• Therefore, any official crossing would need to be located further away from the junction with Coldstream Road which would further impact on the existing bus stop requiring its removal.

• There is also an existing traffic light controlled pedestrian crossing on Guards Avenue at the junction with Coulsdon Road which is less than 100m east of the existing dropped kerb crossing.
